DJ Playlists
Its your party and you get what you want, and everyone
wants their party to be brillient. Most people have
been to a party when the DJ didnt have a clue what to
play and think all they will have to do is supply their
DJ with a list of all the music to play and the party
will be brillient. Although we love requests unlike
some DJs we do not welcome 100% playlists because we
know long DJ playlists are a mistake. All partys are
supposed to be fun and a great deal of that fun is in
the spontaneity of the moment. Its like opening a christmas
presents already knowing what the present is. The present
may be exactly what you wanted but its not nearly as
exciting as not knowing.
Its best to give your party DJ a list of about 10
- 20 tracks and on the night your geusts can supply
the DJ with loads more. When you are compiling your
list its not a good idea for you to ask your guests
for their favouvites, because its much better to leave
this to the night. Recently we peformed at a party and
the organiser insisted on a playlist of 70 tracks. There
where heavey rock tracks, dub regga tracks, many obsure
album tracks including one from the stage show Les Miserables
and little know songs from Frank Sinatra and Tonny Bennet.
The party was not a great succes and it turned out the
organiser had asked his 70 geusts to pick a track each.
Everyone trying to appear as if they had a refined sense
of music picked obscure tracks. Party music is supposed
to bring everyone together and join in a shared experinced.
In this case it was imposible to know who asked for
what or as many didnt show up, if they where even in
the room. Each track played by the DJ should not be
pre decided but always selected on the basis of how
well the one playing is being recieved. It may be a
rubbish party dance track which is so uncool nobody
would ever admit to liking, it but it may get everyone
on the dance floor and actually enjoying the party.
